With this variety though, comes the challenge of keeping our roads safe for everyone. Busy environments can overload road users with information, making it harder to react quickly and increasing the risk of accidents.
The City Council has made positive changes to nearby roads, these include lower speed limits, separated cycle lanes, and additional crossings 鈥 but safety still depends on all of us.

- Always聽give way at pedestrian crossings. Slow down, stay alert, and be ready to stop 鈥 even if you鈥檙e in a cycle lane.
- Use the nearest designated cycle crossing聽to cross roads safely 鈥 there are plenty of these on and around campus to help you get where you鈥檙e going.
- If you鈥檙e using a聽pedestrian crossing, hop off and walk your bike across. If it鈥檚 a聽cycle crossing, shared path, or courtesy crossing, you can ride across 鈥 just be mindful of others.

- Choose the safest option 鈥撀爑se a pedestrian crossing whenever you can. If you鈥檙e within 20 metres of one, it鈥檚 not just a great habit, it鈥檚 also the law.
- If you鈥檙e getting off a bus,聽wait until it drives away before crossing聽鈥 that way you can clearly see (and be seen by) oncoming traffic.
- Before stepping out, always聽make eye contact with drivers and cyclists聽to ensure they鈥檝e seen you and can stop in time.
